Today’s Publishing is all about how the publishing industry is changing (and needs to change due to evolving markets), and how those changes create more opportunities for authors.
Are we too focused on the written word?
New authors with that shiny new novel ready to burst into the world are primarily focused on the traditional route to getting published. But in this new world of new media, there are many more viable opportunities to get your work out to a global audience, and some might be surprising.
In a series of posts here throughout 2008, Today’s Publishing will be looking at audio novels and audio books. From the commercial products and services, to successful independent authors and how they used new mediums to grow their audience and promote their books, well before they appeared in print. We will also be looking at specific techniques to help you get your book to an audience in new ways, and how that can attract the attention of the publishing industry.
Never come across an independent audio novel?
No problem, we can fix that for you. There are plenty of them around, but we recommend you spend a few minutes and have a listen to works by authors such as Scott Sigler (one of the most successful new media authors around), Phil Rossi, and Mike Bennet. As 2008 progresses, we will also be following Neil Dixon, a brand new author who is just, this very month, setting out with his first novel in audio form.
Watch out for this series, starting next week.
